1. The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has emerged as the major minority party in the Gombe State House of Assembly.
This followed the defection of the member representing Kaltungo West constituency, Bashir Yakubu Barau, who joined NNPP from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) yesterday.
2. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has admonished the political class to allow the judiciary to perform its constitutional functions, saying politicians get blinded when they get power. Jonathan gave the admonition yesterday at a book presentation/reception in Bayelsa State.
3. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, said he would be committed to the development of the country if elected the president of Nigeria in the forthcoming presidential election. Speaking during his Ondo rally yesterday, Obi pledged to be prudent in the management of public funds while in office.
4. The Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress in Imo have disagreed over Governor Hope Uzodimma’s scorecard within his three years in office. While the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Collins Opurozor, said Uzodimma’s three years were enmeshed in economic stagnation, mass penury, insecurity and infrastructural decay, the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Cajetan Duke, dismissed the statement.
5. Police in Kwara State have rescued 41 children comprising 22 boys and 19 girls who were being trafficked to Ilorin, the state capital from Kontagora in Niger State. The children aged between five and 15 years were intercepted at Oko Olowo along Ilorin-Jebba Expressway while trying to board a vehicle to take them to their destination in Ilorin in the early hours of Saturday.
6. Gunmen on Friday in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State killed two members of a vigilante group in the community. It was gathered that the incident which happened on Thursday night led to the burning of tyres along the major streets at Amukpe by angry youths in protest of the continued insecurity in the town.
7. The home of the Spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Ugochinyere has been attacked at Akokwa, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State. Three persons, including an uncle to the spokesperson, were killed in the attack
8. Veteran Nollywood actor, Femi Ogunrombi is dead. Ogunrombi who is popular for his role in Wale Adenuga’s Comedy series, Papa Ajasco was confirmed dead by Shaibu Husseini, a Theatre practitioner.
9. Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the detention facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021. He further pledged to stand surety for the secessionist.
10. Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle says his administration has found 199 ghost doctors on the payroll of the state government. He said the state government was paying salaries for “280 doctors but there are 81 medical doctors” in the state in reality.
