The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said 2023 election will take place in super IDP camps in 19 local government areas out of the 27 council areas in Borno State.

Newsonline reports that the electoral body said elections may not be held in all parts of the 27 council areas of the state because of insecurity.

INEC said the remaining local governments will cast their votes in their normal polling units as provisions will not be made for super camps voting.

Borno State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC, Mohammed Ibrahim, disclosed this on Friday at a press conference on the preparedness of the commission to conduct a hitch-free election in 2023.

Mohammed further said the commission is seriously monitoring the campaign spending of all political parties for the 2023 election.

“The commission is monitoring and tracking the campaign finances of parties and candidates,” Mohammed assured.

The Borno state REC assured that the commission is committed to conducting free, fair and credible poll come 2023.

Speaking on the denial of facilities by political parties in states where they are in power, INEC said such is undemocratic.

Mohammed further said Borno State, which has 27 LGAs, three senatorial districts, 10 federal constituencies and 28 state constituencies, has 312 registration areas, 5,071 polling units and 2,514,228 voters as contained in the preliminary register of voters.
