For Delegating Questions, Tinubu Can't Be Held To Account- Chatham House

After his engagement on Monday with the London-based economic think tank, Chatham House, the presidential candidate of the APC Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been asked by Nigerians to collapse his structure for LP candidate, Peter Obi.

Newsonline reports that Nigerians’ reactions and calls for Tinubu to collapse his structure for Obi followed what many Nigerians and opposition parties described as the inability to have ‘independent thought’ when he delegated answering questions to some of his team members.

The former governor of Lagos State from 1999-2007 was at Chatham House yesterday to discuss with the think tank policy group his economic, security and other plans he has for the biggest country in Africa, Nigeria if elected in 2023.

After reading his address at the Chatham House, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate refused to answer questions. He referred all questions to his team, including, House of Representatives speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai; governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade and others.

Tinubu’s preference that his team members answer questions from the moderator in his place caused reactions from Nigerians, as many doubt his ability to lead the country if elected in 2023.

Social medial influencer and end-to-police brutality activist, Rinu Oduala, advised the former governor of Lagos State to collapse his structure for Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate.

Rinu said, “Now, it’s clear that Tinubu cannot lead this country after refusing to answer questions at one of the biggest global think tanks and policy institutes in the world.

“He needs to collapse his structure for Peter Obi.”

Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, said the APC fielded a presidential candidate who is worse than their candidate for the 2015 and 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari. She added that it showed that the ruling party has no regard for the citizens.

“APC actually gave us someone worse than Buhari!” Aisha said.

Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organization spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Daniel Bwala said, “To be fit to be the president you must think on your feet, exercise independent thought and expression. Be able to respond to any issue or question and finally must be able to make sound judgment calls.”

Bwala added, “Chatham house show of shame. You want to be the president but avoiding answering questions, instead you are re-directing the answers to El-Rufai, Alake and co. Nigerians want to be governed by a person not a robot who cannot exercise independent thought in answering questions>”
