The presidential candidate of the Laour Party in 2023 Election has detailed his plan on how he would end hunger in the country if elected in commemoration of the World Food Day.

Newsonline reports that Peter Obi stated that the country is in the web of food inflation which has brough hunger to the citizens as a result of high level of insecurity and apparent neglect of the agricultural sector.

The former governor of Anambra State stated this on Sunday, 16th October, in commemoration of the 2022 World Food Day by the United Nations to call the attention of world leaders to issue of hunger across the world and its effect on children.

The Labour Party presidential candidate argued that without farmers accessing the farms as a result of bandits there cannot be an end to hunger in the country, which results in food inflation.

He said if elected insecurity would be the first issue to address head on in line with his agenda of moving the country from consumption to production.

Peter Obi said, “High level of insecurity and the apparent neglect of the agricultural sector, among other factors like the flooding of farmlands are responsible for the prevalent soaring food inflation that is biting hard on the country today.

“While insecurity has kept farmers away from their farmlands, the lack of investment in agriculture has caused the sector to continue to perform poorly. In pursuance of our vision of moving the country from consumption to production, I will tackle insecurity as my first priority in government, while ensuring that the vast lands littered across the nation, especially in the North, are well invested in, for massive food production.”
