There has been a whole lot of great songs, especially collaborations this year, we’ve had singer write for others, we’ve had writers sing, the major highlight has been producers becoming singers, a case study of Pheelz, and YBNL’s Asake’s run as well.
Now, lets get into the hottest and most acclaimed collaborations so far this year.
5. SkiiBii X Davido – Baddest Boy (Remix)
This song was one of the signals that defined the industry this year. The song did not only define the industry, it also showed that the year of catch phrases and tiktok likable hooks has come in Afrobeats. Immediately the collaboration was announced the original version of the song clinched it biggest streams and moved up on the Nigerian Apple music charts, till it finally peaked at No.1.
The original version moved to no.2 after the original version dropped. This earned Skiibii a never seen before tag, where both an original and remix version of a song were both atop the first two spots on the chart.
4. Pheelz X Buju – Finesse
When a song blows up with just a snippet, then you know its getting serious. Finesse chorus blew up on Tiktok even before the BNXN fka Buju verse was ever imagined to be made. Finesse is not just a song, it’s an anthem and we have Pheelz, Mr. producer, and BNXN to thank for that. Let’s not get started on how the snippet of the song, Finesse effortlessly hypnotized everyone on social media. As a matter of fact, you could literally be praying and the next thing, you’re singing, “If I Broke Na My Business In Your Subconscious”.
Consequently, Finesse made its debut on the billboard hot 100 in its week of release and pushed down Essence and Love Nwantiti
3. Pheelz X Davido – Electricity
With Pheelz on a major roll, it was only proper to expect another stunting classic from the producer turn singer. Pheelz who announced in an interview that even before he recorded Finesse, there was Electricity. The song which was a straight classic, came in at what can be described as the most perfect moment, because it looked like it came in when the Electricity distribution body in the country decided to comply.
The song has gone ahead to peak at number 1 on the Apple music chart and has accumulated over 13million streams so far on Boomplay, and more than 10 million views on Youtube, the song keeps growing everyday.
2. Asake X Burna Boy- Sungba
YBNL’s Asake did not only put out the best collaboration with this one, he also gave it a classic video. Sungba remix, guested the Grammy-Award-Winning singer, Burna Boy. The official remix went crazy both on social media and the streets in the shortest time ever. It success came right after the success of the original song.
Sungba is also the 2nd track off Asake’s EP, Ololade Asake, with features from Olamide. And just like every other street jam, Sungba is an addictive song, which signals direct lyrics to a love interest, signaling his intentions of wanting her and not needing her, with a boldness that only a fat pocket can give.
BurnaBoy coming in on the track was enchanting, he did not only match the flow, he also brought in his total energy and star power both to the song and the video as well.
1. Mavin All Stars – Overdose (Overloading)
Whats better than two head? 3, 4, 5 or 6 good heads. On this song Mavin stars brought in their all, the song was not only a hit song, it also helped show off more of Crayon’s talents and aided the introduction of Boyspice into the ever bubbling Afrobeats scene.
