ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has thrown their weight behind the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for their protest and occupation of airports in the country in protest to the continued strike action.

Newsonline reports that ASUU said the protest and shutting down of all international airports in the country by the Nigerian students’ body is in line with the rights of the students to education.

ASUU’s National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who stated this on Monday in reaction to the shutting down of Lagos airports said he is hopeful that the Federal government would listen to the students who have been at home for seven months.

Osedeke said, “We commend NANS members for fighting for their rights. It is their right. The pro-chancellors are doing well too. We hope the government will listen to them because they (pro-chancellors) understand what is happening in the Nigerian universities.”

Recall that NANS had on Saturday, in Akure, Ondo State threatened to shut down all airports in the country to press down their demand for an end to the ASUU strike with started on February 14.

Chairman, NANS National Task Force on ‘End ASUU Strike Now,’ Ojo Raymond Olumide, said students were tired of pleading with both parties to end the strike.

Unfortunately, while the students’ body NANS is shutting down the country’s airports Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, has traveled to the United States for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly UNGA.

The Vice preisdnet Professor Yemi Osinbajo also traveeld to Britian for the Royal burial of Queen Elizabthe 11.
