The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won the heart of the country’s youth who make up about 60% of Nigeria’s population with his message of moving the country from consumption to production.
The youths of Nigeria who have been affected by years of misrule by the country’s elite see Peter Obi as another means to show their concern for the corruption of the elite class that has been in government since the return of the country to democratic rule in 1999.
Recall that the youths in October 2020, staged an #Endsars protest to call attention and demand the end of police brutality and bad governance in the country which resulted in the killing of many of the youths.
The Obidient rally which seems like a movement of the youths against the old established order has been held since August across the states of the country.
While the youths claim that Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State ordered the teargas attack on them in Abakaliki, the state government has not given an official statement to refute the allegation.
However, Newsonline observed that the Obidients carried on with the march for the presidential candidate under the guard of some police personnel.
