Zenith Bank Customers can now pay with Google Pay for secure contactless and online transactions.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Zenith Bank has introduced Google Pay for eligible cardholders, allowing customers to make contactless payments and complete online purchases using compatible devices without repeatedly entering their card details.

Zenith Bank Plc has announced that its customers can now use Google Pay, expanding its digital payment options and providing a more convenient way to pay at participating contactless terminals and supported online platforms.

The new service allows eligible Zenith Bank cardholders to add their supported cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay for transactions, subject to device compatibility, merchant acceptance and service availability.

The development comes as more Nigerians rely on smartphones to shop, pay bills and manage their finances, increasing demand for convenient and secure digital payment solutions.

According to the bank, Google Pay uses payment tokenisation technology, which replaces a customer’s actual card number with a digital token to help protect sensitive payment information during transactions.

With the service, customers can tap compatible devices at participating contactless payment terminals or select Google Pay when checking out online and within supported applications, without repeatedly entering their card details.

Zenith Bank Highlights Digital Banking Innovation

The introduction of Google Pay builds on Zenith Bank’s history of using technology to improve customer experience and expand access to banking services.

In 2007, the bank opened what it describes as Nigeria’s first automated teller machine (ATM) gallery, a branch without human tellers that provided customers with access to cash, including on weekends and public holidays.

The initiative offered an alternative to conventional banking processes, which often involved queues and restricted service hours.

Zenith Bank said its continued investment in technology reflects its commitment to making banking more convenient and secure as customers increasingly adopt digital financial services.

The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji, OON, described the development as “digitally forward” and highlighted the bank’s forthcoming Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026.

The event, themed Future Forward 6.0, is scheduled for November 5, 2026, and is expected to continue the bank’s engagement with emerging technologies and their implications for businesses and consumers.

How to Set Up Google Pay with Zenith Bank

Eligible Zenith Bank customers can add their supported cards to Google Wallet on compatible devices by opening the application, selecting the option to add a payment card and completing the required verification process.

Once the setup is complete, customers can use Google Pay at participating contactless terminals and supported online or in-app checkout points.

Availability depends on card eligibility, device compatibility, merchant acceptance and the supported payment service.
