GTCO has launched Google Pay for GTBank Customers and Squad Merchants in Nigeria.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that GTCO has introduced Google Pay across GTBank and HabariPay’s Squad payment gateway, enabling customers to make online payments and businesses to accept payments through the digital wallet.
Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has announced the launch of Google Pay services across two of its subsidiaries, allowing GTBank customers to pay online with their debit cards and businesses using HabariPay’s Squad payment gateway to accept payments through the digital wallet.
The Group announced the development on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, coinciding with the launch of Google Pay in Nigeria.

The integration positions GTCO on both sides of online transactions, enabling customers to make payments through Google Pay while providing businesses with another option for receiving payments at checkout.
Under the arrangement, customers of Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTBank) can add eligible debit cards to Google Wallet and select Google Pay when making online purchases locally and internationally.
Businesses using Squad, HabariPay’s payment gateway, can also offer Google Pay as a payment option alongside existing methods, including debit cards, bank transfers, USSD, bank payments and Squad’s buy-now-pay-later options.
How GTBank Customers Can Use Google Pay
GTBank customers can add eligible debit cards to Google Wallet through the app on Android devices or through their Google Accounts.
Once a card has been added, customers can select Google Pay at checkout, choose their preferred card and confirm the payment without repeatedly entering their card number, expiry date or CVV.
According to GTCO, Google Pay uses a secure digital token in place of the actual card number, helping protect customers’ card details during transactions.
The service can be used for eligible online purchases, including subscriptions, travel bookings, food delivery, bill payments and digital services wherever Google Pay is accepted.
The integration is designed to simplify the checkout process by reducing the amount of information customers must enter when completing online transactions.
Squad Merchants Can Now Accept Google Pay
GTCO also announced that businesses using Squad can now accept Google Pay through the payment gateway’s checkout system.
The option is enabled by default for businesses on Squad, although merchants can choose to disable it if they prefer.
Customers with eligible cards saved in Google Wallet can select Google Pay at checkout, confirm their payments and return to the merchant’s website once the transaction has been verified.
GTCO said merchants configured to accept international payments can receive Google Pay transactions from customers worldwide, potentially expanding payment opportunities for Nigerian businesses serving international customers and diaspora markets.
The Group noted that a simpler checkout experience could help reduce the number of customers who abandon purchases before completing payments, particularly among small and growing businesses.
GTCO Explains Google Pay Integration
Commenting on the launch, GTCO Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, said the integration was designed to make digital payments simpler and more convenient for customers and merchants.
“Most failed online payments are not refused, they are abandoned. Somewhere along the way the customer gives up, and the business never learns about the sale it lost,” Agbaje said.
He added that the Group was committed to delivering payment solutions that make transactions safe and straightforward for its customers.
“With Google Pay, what matters to us is that we are ready on both sides from the first day: a GTBank customer can pay with it, and a business on Squad can accept it,” he said.
Agbaje further explained that the integration demonstrates how GTCO’s banking and payments businesses can work together to improve the digital payment experience.
According to him, making digital transactions easier benefits customers, merchants and the wider economy.
HabariPay Highlights Benefits for Businesses
The Managing Director of HabariPay, Eduofon Japhet, said the integration would enable Squad merchants to offer customers another convenient way to pay without requiring additional integration work.
“For a merchant, every extra field at checkout is a reason for a customer to leave. Squad businesses now get Google Pay inside the checkout they already use, so their customers can pay in a few taps with a card they have already saved,” Japhet said.
He added that merchants configured for international payments could accept Google Pay from customers worldwide through their existing Squad checkout.
Availability of Google Pay on GTBank and Squad
GTBank customers can add eligible debit cards to Google Wallet through the Google Wallet app on Android or through their Google Accounts.
Google Pay is enabled by default for businesses using the Squad payment gateway, with merchants retaining the option to switch it off.
Squad merchants configured for international payments can also accept Google Pay from customers around the world.
Customers and businesses can find more information through the official websites of GTBank and Squad.
