Rotimi Amaechi has finally agreed to cecome Atiku’s running mate.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past Chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson.

Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State and one of the leading contenders in the ADC presidential primary election, lost the party’s ticket to the former Vice President.
His emergence as Atiku’s running mate comes months after he publicly stated that he did not purchase the ADC presidential nomination form with the intention of becoming a vice-presidential candidate.
Following the primary election, Amaechi was among party figures who expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the contest. Some aggrieved members had alleged that the exercise was skewed in favour of Atiku, claims that fueled tensions within the party after the primary.
Despite his earlier reservations, indications now suggest that the former minister has agreed to join Atiku on the ADC presidential ticket.
When contacted on whether Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential position, Leader Sampson responded in the affirmative, saying simply, “Yes.”
The Atiku-Amaechi ticket is expected to reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 general election, with both politicians bringing significant political experience and influence to the ADC’s campaign.
Further details on the official unveiling of the ticket are expected in the coming days.
