Retired Police Officers have blocked Aso Rock gate and demand exit from Pension Scheme.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday staged a protest at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, blocking one of the gates to demand their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The protesters, under the umbrella of the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria, described the scheme as unfair and called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sign the Police Exit Bill into law.

According to the retirees, the bill passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025, and transmitted to the Presidency on March 16, 2026 seeks to remove police personnel from the CPS.

Speaking during the protest, the forum’s National Coordinator, Raphael Irowainu, said the demonstration was aimed at urging the President to act swiftly on the legislation.

“Our major aim here is to prevail on the President to sign the bill exiting the police from the Contributory Pension Scheme into law,” he stated.

The retirees argued that while other security agencies have been excluded from the scheme, police personnel remain subjected to it, which they say has negatively impacted their welfare.

They also described the CPS as detrimental to their well-being, insisting that urgent action is needed to address their concerns.

The protest adds to previous demonstrations by retired police officers, including a similar action at the National Assembly in 2025, as calls intensify for reforms to the pension system affecting security personnel.
