Peter Obi has raised safety concerns and said that he may not be alive to contest 2027 presidential election.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed concern about his safety ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he is uncertain whether he will be alive by the time Nigerians go to the polls.
Obi raised the concern during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, where he discussed preparations for the 2027 election and the need for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The former Anambra State governor said he had been subjected to petitions and investigations in different places, adding that he remained uncertain about what could happen to him before the election.
“As I speak to you, I have also petitioned, I’ve been investigated everywhere. I still hear that I’m not even sure whether I’ll still be alive at the end of this,” Obi said.

He said he was relying on God for protection while appealing to politicians to create a peaceful environment ahead of the elections.
“I’m praying to God for His protection because at this stage, I’m not sure what is happening,” he added.
Obi also called on state governors to allow presidential candidates and other political contestants to campaign freely in their states, regardless of their political affiliations.
According to him, governors have the right to support candidates of their choice but should also provide room for other political parties and candidates to campaign.
“Some of them will be campaigning for presidency tomorrow. They will be campaigning for other offices tomorrow. Let’s have peace,” he said.
The NDC candidate recalled his experience as governor of Anambra State, saying his administration allowed politicians from other parties to campaign in the state even when they were supporting his political opponents.
Obi’s comments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections. In recent weeks, he has repeatedly called for credible elections and urged Nigerians to protect their votes.
The development also follows a September incident in Benue State involving the disruption of Obi’s convoy during a campaign-related visit. Police subsequently announced the arrest of 46 suspects in connection with the incident and said investigations were ongoing.
The NDC candidate has previously said that his campaign would focus on protecting votes and ensuring that results are properly recorded and transmitted from polling units during the 2027 election.
