US is set to deport 79 Nigerians following DHS releaseof the ‘Worst-of-the-Worst’ criminal list.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced plans to deport at least 79 Nigerians listed among its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal offenders as part of an intensified immigration enforcement campaign.

Findings from the DHS website on Monday showed that the affected Nigerians were convicted of serious crimes including fraud, drug trafficking, assault, manslaughter and robbery. The deportations are linked to a broader crackdown by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on criminal immigrants across the country.

In a statement accompanying the list, the DHS said it was highlighting “the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by ICE,” noting that the operation aligns with President Donald Trump’s renewed push for mass deportations targeting individuals with criminal records.

“Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations, starting with the worst of the worst,” the statement said.

The published list includes dozens of Nigerians convicted of various offences across multiple U.S. states. DHS said those named were arrested during enforcement operations aimed at removing criminal immigrants deemed a threat to public safety.

The latest development comes amid a renewed immigration crackdown under the Trump administration, which has significantly expanded enforcement actions against illegal and criminal immigrants. Reports indicate that the policy has affected many Nigerians living in the United States.

The intensified deportation drive has triggered fear among Nigerian immigrants, with some reportedly going into hiding while others are returning to Nigeria quietly to avoid arrest.

The sweeping enforcement measures, including house-to-house raids, have sparked anxiety, public debate and protests in parts of the U.S., especially following reports of violent incidents involving federal immigration officers during recent operations.
