EFCC has arraigned Nigeria Peace Corps Commandant and Finance Director over alleged N60m Badge Funds Misappropriation.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Directorate, has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, alongside the organisation’s Director of Finance, Omolola Aminat Ahmed, over the alleged misappropriation of N60 million earmarked for the supply of badges.

The defendants were brought before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja on Monday, where they appeared before Justice H. B. Yusuf to answer a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation of funds.

According to the EFCC, the charges are punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT. The anti-graft agency alleged that the duo, sometime in 2024, conspired to commit an illegal act involving the misappropriation of public funds.

One of the counts further alleged that Akon and Ahmed dishonestly converted N46 million out of the N60 million released for the execution of a contract for the supply of badges to their personal use.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in open court. Following their pleas, prosecution counsel, Khalid Sanusi, applied for a trial date to commence hearing in the matter.

Justice Yusuf subsequently adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, for trial and granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million each, with one surety in like amount. The court directed that the sureties must be persons of reputable standing and residents within the Federal Capital Territory.

The arraignment comes amid intensified scrutiny of public sector spending, as the EFCC continues to pursue several high-profile cases involving alleged diversion and mismanagement of public funds by senior officials across various government agencies.
