Ambassadorial Nominees List

President Tinubu has come under fire over scandalous Ambassadorial Nominees List.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Bola Tinubu over the newly released list of ambassadorial nominees sent to the Senate, describing it as “scandalous, reprehensible, and a true reflection of the President’s values.”

In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP alleged that the list contains “disgraced propagandists, morally bankrupt politicians, and public officials with tainted reputations,” whom Nigerians and the international community view as lacking integrity.

The party said the inclusion of such figures in Nigeria’s diplomatic corps marks “a disappointing chapter in our nation’s history of foreign representation,” adding that the development “mirrors the character and priorities of the current administration.”

“Although Nigerians are deeply shocked by the names on this list, they are not entirely surprised considering the antecedents of this administration,” the statement read. “A nominee is a direct reflection of the values and judgement of the person who makes the nomination.”

The opposition party also criticised President Tinubu for taking nearly three years to compile the list, arguing that the delay “shows the scarcity of competent individuals within his circle.”

One of the most controversial nominations, the PDP noted, is that of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party accused Yakubu of overseeing an election cycle “defined by inconsistencies, unfulfilled promises, and actions that paved the way for the current administration.”

“To reward him with an ambassadorial posting is an outrageous endorsement of a broken reward system,” the PDP said. “This appears to be a message to the new INEC Chairman; deliver another flawed election in 2027 and you too may be rewarded. It is unacceptable and shameful.”

The PDP stressed that the credibility of Nigeria’s ambassadors directly influences the nation’s global reputation. “A country’s diplomatic standing is tied to the integrity of its leaders and representatives,” the statement added. “Sending individuals with questionable public profiles abroad is reckless, damaging, and sets Nigeria up for diplomatic embarrassment.”

The party therefore demanded that President Tinubu withdraw the entire list and submit new nominees with proven integrity, democratic values, and the ability to uphold Nigeria’s image internationally.

The statement ended with a call for “the restoration of credibility in Nigeria’s foreign service and the protection of the country’s diplomatic reputation.”
