NFF Leadership Under Investigation Over Alleged Mismanagement of $25m FIFA, CAF Grants

Adesola recalled that between 2015 and 2025, the NFF received development funds exceeding $25 million from FIFA and CAF, yet there is “no visible investment or infrastructure to justify the huge financial inflow.”

NFF Leadership has come under investigation over alleged mismanagement of $25m FIFA and CAF Grants.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the House of Representatives has resolved to constitute a Special Investigative Committee to probe the alleged mismanagement of over $25 million in financial grants received by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The decision followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance during Tuesday’s plenary, co-sponsored by Hon. Adedayo Adesola (Lagos) and Hon. Felix Nwaeke (Rivers).

The motion, titled “Misuse of FIFA and CAF Grants by the Nigerian Football Federation,” accused the NFF of gross mismanagement of funds, which lawmakers said had contributed to Nigeria’s declining football performance in recent years.

Adesola recalled that between 2015 and 2025, the NFF received development funds exceeding $25 million from FIFA and CAF, yet there is “no visible investment or infrastructure to justify the huge financial inflow.”

He noted that in 2016, FIFA raised an audit query over the handling of a $1.1 million development grant, revealing that $802,000 lacked proper documentation — a revelation that prompted then Sports Minister Solomon Dalung to order an independent audit.

The Lagos lawmaker also referenced ongoing public outrage over the alleged misappropriation of $1.2 million meant for the construction of the Birnin Kebbi Stadium, which he described as a “substandard facility” that does not reflect the amount reportedly spent.

“A similar grant was used by the Kenyan Football Federation to build a world-class stadium, yet the NFF spent the same amount on a structure far below international standards,” Adesola said.

He added that despite repeated allegations and investigations by the EFCC and ICPC, the pattern of financial recklessness within the NFF appears to persist.

With the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers approaching, Adesola stressed the need for urgent intervention to prevent further abuse of football funds.

Following deliberations, the House, presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, unanimously adopted the motion and directed the creation of a special committee to investigate NFF’s finances from 2015 to date.

The NFF leadership is also expected to appear before the committee with detailed records of all receipts and expenditures related to FIFA and CAF grants.
