NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has tipped Arsenal to win this season’s Premier League title, describing Mikel Arteta’s side as having the strongest squad in Europe and the right mentality to go all the way.

The Gunners currently sit four points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool, who trail by six and seven points respectively.

Mikel, who once doubted Arsenal’s ability to handle pressure in the title race, admitted his opinion has changed after witnessing their recent performances.

“Martinelli is coming off the bench, winning games. Eze is coming off the bench. They are winning games,” Mikel said on his podcast.
“Merino is injured, Havertz is injured, no Odegaard, no Gabriel Jesus — it’s frightening. The squad Arsenal have right now… this is their title to lose.”

Backing Mikel’s view, Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer praised Arsenal’s defensive strength and effectiveness from set pieces as the key factors setting them apart from rivals.

“Arsenal’s huge advantage over Liverpool and Man City is their defence and set-pieces,” Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“They’re in the driving seat because they can still win games even when not playing well — that’s down to how organised and solid they are at the back.”
