Osun Decides: Voting commences in Osogbo, Olorunda LGs
Voting has commenced across polling units in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas of Osun State.
Despite the initial fears of voter apathy due to pre-election violence, NewsOnline observed that there is massive turn out of voters.
In Ward 2, Units 3 and 5,Olorunda local government area, voters turned out enmasse as voting started at few minutes to 9am due to late arrival of INEC ad-hoc staff.
It was also observed that police personnel at the polling units were not armed and conducted themselves accordingly.
In Ward 5, Unit 14, Olorunda local government area, voters complained of an alleged BVAS glitch which was later clarified.
The presiding officers explained that the issue was that if fingers print and picture.
He explained that any of the criteria could be used for accreditation during the voting.
At Ward 5, Unit 7, Olorunda local government, NewsOnline observed that the aged and People With Disabilities, PWDs, were given preference as voting commenced.
There was also reported case of BVAS machine glitch in Ward 1 Unit 10 Boripe L.G at 8:40am.
The Osun INEC Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, clarifying the usage of BVAS, disclosed that the criteria for accreditation is either through finger prints or pictures.
He added that if one fails to register, the other is still acceptable.
Osun election: Adeleke casts vote at his Ward
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his vote at Ward 02, Abogunde Sagba, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state.
The governor had arrived at Polling Unit at about 8:10 am on Saturday.
He is seeking re-election under the platform of Accord Party after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through which he won the governorship seat in 2022.
A total of 15 political parties are participating in the election.
Two out of the 15 candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had earlier announced their withdrawal.
The governor, an uncle to afrobeats superstar, Davido, is up against the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, the People Redemption Party, PRP, among others.
Osun election: Adeleke arrives polling unit to cast his vote
Governor Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party, has arrived at his polling unit to cast his vote in the Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke arrived at Polling Unit 009, Ward 02, Abogunde compound, Ede North Local Government Area, at about 8:10 am on Saturday.
The governor is seeking re-election for a second term in the off-cycle election, which will determine the next occupant of the Bola Ige Government House for the next four years.
A total of 15 political parties are participating in the election, although two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, had announced their withdrawal.
While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Adewale declared support for Adeleke.
Despite the withdrawals, both APGA and APM remain on the ballot for the election.
There is large turnout of voters in polling units around Ede North, the hometown of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Voters in Osun State turned out early on Saturday to exercise their franchise in the governorship election, with some prospective voters waiting for the arrival of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officials and election materials.
As of 7:13 am, voters were seen waiting at Gulf Junction, Ogo Oluwa Ward 4, Unit 2, Osogbo, the state capital.
Osun voters are electing a governor who will occupy the Bola Ige Government House for the next four years.
A total of 15 political parties are participating in the off-cycle election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
