3 More Nigerians In Detention For Criticising Aisha Buhari

Undone with the arrest and detention of a final-year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed, Aisha Buhari, has taken a step further against her critics by ordering the arrest of three more Nigerians for holding her and her husband’s government to account.

Newsonline reports that Salisu Isyaku, Salisu Habib and Zubairu Ahmed in lieu of a female suspect, Kaltim Ahmed, since December 14, 2022 – about three weeks – are currently languishing in detention center of Nigeria Police, after being arrested by detectives from the Force Intelligence Bureau, FIB.

According to an exclusive report by Daily Nigerian, the arrest followed a criticism by a Youtuber, Ms Ahmed, posted on her channel @jarumhausatv, criticizing the failure of Buhari’s government especially his failure in securing the North which has become bedrock of insecurity in the country.

The message that broke Aisha’s ego, according to Daily Nigerian was, “Your husband deceived us, lying and crying. It is good that we elected him, and his election had exposed all the Fulanis in Nigeria.

“Your government is silent about killing of Hausa people by Fulani. The southerners have rained all manner of abuses against you, but you are silent. Now you are here intimidating Northerners,” she said in the audio.”

The report added that “While daring Mrs Buhari to arrest her, the Hausa nationalist said in the audio posted on a Youtube channel @jarumhausatv (the audio was formerly circulating on Whatsapp) that the first lady’s grandparents were itinerant foreigners wandering in the bush.

“Your husband deceived us, lying and crying. It is good that we elected him, and his election had exposed all the Fulanis in Nigeria.

“Your government is silent about killing of Hausa people by Fulani. The southerners have rained all manner of abuses against you, but you are silent. Now you are here intimidating Northerners,” she said in the audio.

A security source in the presidency, the report cited said one of the suspects, Salisu Isyaku, is a bureau de change operator, who was arrested for exchanging Saudi riyals to naira to her.

“Initially, he was charged with terrorism financing but later changed to cyberstalking when police realized that the transaction between them was not up to N500,000,” Daily Nigerian reported.

While Nigerians were thankful that Aisha Buhari allowed for the release of the final-year student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed, due to intense international and local criticism, online and offline criticism; little did they know that the first lady is still angry with the Inspector-General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali for ordering the release of a citizen whom she wants to deal with.

Thanks to the IGP, Baba Usman, who listened to the demand by Nigerians and the international human rights watch groups, like Amnesty International (AI) which demanded the release of Aminu, otherwise, he would still be at the mercy of President Buhari’s wife, the security source told the newspaper.

“The police are under intense pressure from Madam [first lady] to deal with the suspects. She wanted the suspects to be charged.

“Even the release of Dutse university student was not done with her consent, and she was angry with IG [Inspector-General of Police] over the withdrawal of charges against the boy,” the report quoted the anonymous security source.
