Fresh political alignments are emerging ahead of the 2027 presidential election following the unveiling of the Village Boys Movement in Abuja on Thursday, as supporters of Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts.

Movement Launch and Ideology

Addressing supporters at the launch event, convener Maazị Tochukwu Ezeoke, who styles himself as the National Village Headmaster, described the initiative as a disciplined nationwide civic movement rooted in “earned prosperity and service-driven leadership.”

According to Ezeoke, the platform seeks to promote a political culture built on productivity, accountability, and measurable value creation, rather than access to power or displays of wealth.

“We represent a Nigeria that works before it earns and earns before it spends,” he declared.

He outlined three core principles guiding the movement:

  • Wealth must follow value

  • Power must follow service

  • Leadership must follow accountability

Ezeoke argued that Nigerian politics has long rewarded proximity to government over innovation and enterprise, describing the movement as a moral counterpoint to what he termed “City Boy culture.”

“This is not hostility toward cities,” he clarified. “It is a moral contrast. The issue is not geography but the source of wealth, the ethics of leadership, and the structure of accountability.”

Reference to Peter Obi

In discussing political standards, Ezeoke referenced Peter Obi, praising his record on fiscal prudence and transparency during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. However, he emphasised that the movement’s support is anchored on values rather than personalities.

“He is not a messiah. Nigeria does not require a saviour figure. Nigeria requires standards,” he said.

Mobilisation Plans

The group unveiled its motto — “Unbought. Unafraid. Unstoppable.” — which it says reflects resistance to vote-buying, intimidation, and patronage politics.

As part of its mobilisation strategy, the movement announced plans for a proposed Two Million Man March across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the coming weeks. Organisers stressed that the rallies would be peaceful, lawful, and volunteer-driven.

Beyond rallies, Ezeoke said the group intends to build grassroots networks “village by village, ward by ward, polling unit by polling unit,” focusing on civic education, budget monitoring, and election integrity.

Call to Youths

Ezeoke urged young Nigerians to reject electoral inducement and intimidation.

“If you refuse to sell your vote, you are unbought. If you refuse to be intimidated, you are unafraid. If you organise lawfully and consistently, you are unstoppable,” he said.

With the 2027 presidential contest drawing closer, the emergence of new civic platforms signals a shifting political landscape, as grassroots mobilisation becomes a central strategy in shaping Nigeria’s electoral future.
