NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has voiced his frustration over the increasing wave of online begging.

In a recent post, the entertainer lamented that social media has now turned into a hub where many people constantly seek financial help instead of finding meaningful ways to earn a living.

According to the actor, the problem lies with individuals who have perfected the act of begging online, frequently requesting money from people they hardly know.

He pointed out that the only real difference between online beggars and those on the streets is internet access, saying,
“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore — it’s now a begging site. The only difference is that, unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data.”

“These days, once you post a picture, the first ten comments are filled with account numbers,” he lamented. “My major problem is with those who have a PhD in begging. Please, omit all that begging from my pictures,” he added.

Yhemolee rose to fame with his hit single “Mon Cheri” featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, and has since starred in Nollywood productions such as “Gangs of Lagos” and “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.”
