Wike Accuses Opposition of Fueling ‘Christian Genocide’ Allegation Against Tinubu Government

“In 2015, under Jonathan, people capitalised on such sentiments to grab power,” Wike said.

Wike has accused the opposition of fueling ‘Christian Genocide’ allegation against Tinubu Government.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that opposition leaders are behind the growing international narrative accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of orchestrating a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television Monday night, Wike claimed that the opposition was deliberately pushing the allegation to create division and undermine national unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the controversy being amplified globally including by U.S. President Donald Trump is politically motivated and designed to destabilise the Tinubu administration.

“In 2015, under Jonathan, people capitalised on such sentiments to grab power,” Wike said.

When asked if he was certain that opposition figures were behind the allegations, the minister replied, “It’s very obvious.”

Wike stated that the political opposition had grown increasingly desperate following what he described as the “collapse of their political structure.”

“The problem we have today is that, by Mr President’s style of politics, the opposition has virtually collapsed,” he said.

He accused some politicians of exploiting religion to sow discord, adding that their real motive was to weaken public confidence in the government before the next election.

“There are so many undercurrents. The opposition knows they can’t stop the President’s return in 2027, so they’re creating division through religion. This is politics taken too far,” he added.

Wike’s remarks come amid diplomatic tension between Nigeria and the United States, following Trump’s recent warning that the U.S. might consider military action if the alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria do not stop.
