BREAKING: FG Declares Friday May 1st Public Holiday for 2026 Workers’ Day

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day celebration.

 

The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on behalf of the Federal Government, as he congratulated Nigerian workers for their contributions to national development.

In a statement signed on Thursday by Magdalene Ajani, the minister praised workers across various sectors for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to duty.

 

According to the statement, the contributions of Nigerian workers remain vital to the country’s growth, economic stability, and overall prosperity.

 

“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day,” the statement read.

 

Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, enhancing security, and creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth.

 

The minister also urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration while encouraging citizens to reflect on the importance of unity, patriotism, and hard work in nation-building.

 

He wished workers across the country a successful and memorable 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
