Tokunbo Wahab
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that goodwill messages have continued to pour in for Tokunbo Wahab as the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources marks his 54th birthday, with admirers describing him as a disciplined administrator and a quiet force in public service.
In a goodwill message titled “Tokunbo Wahab at 54: A Quiet Force in Public Service,” made available to NewsOnline; public affairs commentator, Ayobami Adegboyega Ladipo, praised Wahab for what he described as his steady leadership style, commitment to mentorship and dedication to public service.
According to Ladipo, Wahab has built a reputation around consistency, discipline and substance at a time when public life often rewards noise over impact.
“Leadership is not only about holding public office, but about leaving people better than you found them. That is the kind of leadership people remember,” he stated.
He further highlighted Wahab’s role in Lagos State’s environmental and water management sector, noting that his approach to governance reflects a combination of firmness, restraint and administrative clarity.
Ladipo also commended the commissioner’s commitment to developing younger professionals and supporting the growth of people around him, describing him as a leader who prioritises mentorship rather than personal preservation.
“He is the sort of leader who wants his protégés to succeed, not merely survive,” the statement noted.
He went ahead to describe Wahab as an administrator whose impact is reflected in the systems he builds and the people he influences, rather than public applause or political theatrics.
“At 54, he stands at a point where experience and maturity should naturally deepen purpose, and by every indication, that is exactly what has happened,” Ladipo wrote.
He added that Wahab’s leadership style projects order, discipline and direction, qualities he said remain valuable in public administration and governance.
The pieces concluded with heartfelt prayers and goodwill messages for the commissioner, celebrating his contributions to governance, mentorship and public service in Lagos.
“Tokunbo Wahab deserves to be celebrated not only for what he does, but for how he does it; for the grace in his administration, the dignity in his conduct, and the way he invests in people, not just positions,” Ladipo added.
