Wema Bank has empowered Tech Innovators at Akure, Zaria, Ibadan, and Lagos with Hackaholics 6.0.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Wema Bank, Nigeria’s most innovative financial institution and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, is once again leading the charge in youth empowerment and digital transformation through Hackaholics 6.0, its flagship campus ideathon.

This year’s edition has made inspiring stops at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), the University of Ibadan (UI), and Purple Academy, Lagos, bringing together thousands of tech-savvy students and entrepreneurs to design solutions addressing real-world challenges.

With over 3,000 entries submitted so far, each campus event has witnessed hundreds of participants engage in industry-led masterclasses, hands-on ideation sessions, and intensive mentorship programs, culminating in high-impact pitch sessions where winning teams emerged.

At every location, three Ideathon-winning teams—including at least one women-led team—alongside two Hackathon teams, secured their places at the Hackaholics 6.0 Grand Finale, where they will compete for funding and long-term incubation within Wema Bank’s innovation ecosystem.

Speaking about the initiative, Wema Bank’s Managing Director/CEO, Moruf Oseni, said the program continues to be a platform for nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youth.

“Hackaholics has always been about more than technology. It is about empowering young people to think differently, create boldly, and deliver solutions that move our nation forward. The level of creativity and innovation we’ve seen reinforces why we continue to invest in this initiative,” Oseni stated.

Since its debut in 2019, Hackaholics has evolved into one of Nigeria’s most impactful innovation programs. With over 12,000 applicants from 15 tertiary institutions, and more than $300,000 in funding disbursed, including ₦75 million awarded to women-led teams between 2023 and 2024, the program has created a thriving ecosystem for students, innovators, and early-stage founders to collaborate, learn, and grow.

As the Hackaholics 6.0 tour moves to more cities ahead of the Grand Finale, Wema Bank reaffirms its commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators and changemakers who will define the future of technology, finance, and entrepreneurship in Africa.
