NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk has been confirmed dead after being shot during a campus event in Utah.

Kirk, a well-known ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, was popular for hosting open-air debates on American campuses. He also founded Turning Point USA at the age of 18, becoming one of the most influential conservative voices among young people.

Reacting to the news, Trump described Kirk as “Great, and even Legendary,” adding: “No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.”

Police said the fatal shot was fired from approximately 200 yards away. While a suspect was initially taken into custody, authorities later released the individual as investigations continue. Officers are reportedly conducting building-to-building searches and evacuations.

A video from the event shows Kirk responding to a question about mass shootings moments before the attack. Reports also indicate that Kirk’s wife and two young children were present on campus at the time of the incident.

Kirk’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through U.S. political circles. In January, he had traveled to Greenland with Donald Trump Jr., underscoring his close ties to the former president’s family.
