War Of Words: ‘Party Is Supreme’ – Atiku PCC Replies G-5 On Suspension

G-5 Governors

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council for Atiku and Okowa ticket has replied the G-5 governors, reminding them that their suspension will hold because party is supreme.

Newsonline reports that the war of words followed the threat of suspension that the national leadership of the PDP has decided to impose on Wike and members of the G-5 governors if they go against the party constitution by endorsing either Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that the G-5 governors, which include governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, within the week departed for London to agree on the candidate to endorse between Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu.

It was, however, reported that the five PDP governors who have refused to work for their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on the ground that the national chairman, Ayu Iyorchia, should resign from his position, failed to agree on a particular candidate to endorse between Tinubu and Obi.

A source who was privy to the conditions given to Tinubu and Peter Obi, said the G-5 governors are demanding that candidates of the parties (LP and APC) of the two presidential candidates (Tinubu and Obi) must resign for their candidates in their respective states (Rivers, Oyo, Enugu, Abia and Benue).

The source added that the conditions have met brick wall, as Tinubu and the APC have said they cannot throw out of the bus their candidates.

Following the London engagement, the PDP national leadership, report said, is considering sanctioning the G-5 governors, delisting the party’s candidates in their respective states and collapsing the state party structures.

Reacting to the reported sanction, Governor Wike’s  Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chris Finebone, reportedly said, “We are watching if they can do that. It is those who want to do it (suspension) that deserve to speak.

“They know the consequences of doing that but let it come from the mouth of those who intend to do that – those who intend to suspend Governor Wike and four others.

“Let them be the ones that will say what the outcome will be. Being afraid of suspension is not in our dictionary at all.

“Let those who think they want to suspend Governor Wike and others attempt it. That means they want to plant a wind; they will reap a whirlwind.”

The spokesman of Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign council, Daniel Bwala in response reminded the G-5 that the party is supreme on issues of sanction for anti-party activities.

Bwala said, “the party is supreme, and its decision cannot be challenged by the court, unless…. Which the intended conduct does not fall under. It is a settled law. Be ware.”
