Villagers in Katsina

Villagers in Katsina reportedly abducted Bandits’ Relatives to secure release of kidnapped residents.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a group of villagers in Katsina State have allegedly taken matters into their own hands by abducting family members of suspected bandits in a bid to secure the release of their kidnapped neighbours.

The incident was revealed by social commentator Jonathan Joshua Nyitse in a video obtained by Dockaysworld. Nyitse explained that the villagers identified the bandits responsible for the abductions and traced their relatives’ homes.

According to him, the villagers held the bandits’ family members until the abductors returned their victims, reportedly giving each released villager ₦30,000 for transportation.

Nyitse described the development as a “new dimension” to Nigeria’s escalating insecurity crisis, noting that some communities are now resorting to self-defence measures due to persistent attacks and slow government intervention.

This comes shortly after victims of the Kwara church attack regained their freedom, weeks after kidnappers allegedly demanded a ₦3.8 billion ransom, a claim authorities have yet to clarify. Neither the president nor security agencies have provided updates on the fate of the attackers.
