U.S. Embassy in Abuja has issued security alert amid planned protest and cancelled all visa appointments.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to all American citizens in Abuja following a planned protest linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Posted on the Embassy’s official X account on Wednesday, the advisory warns of a high potential for unrest in Nigeria’s capital city, citing previous demonstrations that escalated into violent clashes between protestors and Nigerian security forces.

“The Embassy strongly recommends that all US citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4,” the statement said.

Visa Appointments Cancelled

In light of the planned protests, the Embassy also announced the cancellation of all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted directly with instructions on rescheduling.

“Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates,” the statement added.

The Embassy urged U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and to seek emergency assistance if needed by contacting the Embassy at +234 209 461 4328 or visiting its official website.

The alert underscores the Embassy’s caution amid heightened tensions over the Middle East conflict and aims to ensure the safety of American residents and visitors in the Nigerian capital.
