Tyla has defeated Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema to win Best Afrobeats Artist at 2026 AMAs.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that South African singer Tyla emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 52nd American Music Awards after defeating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Wizkid and Rema to clinch the Best Afrobeats Artist category.
The award ceremony, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and hosted by Queen Latifah, also saw Tyla win the Social Song of the Year award for her hit track CHANEL.
The 24-year-old singer became the only African artist to win at the event despite not attending the ceremony physically.

Her song “CHANEL,” released in October 2025, has continued to enjoy massive global success, reportedly surpassing 320 million streams on Spotify while topping music charts in several countries.
Tyla, who entered the night as the most nominated African artist in American Music Awards history with four nominations, has continued her rise on the international music scene following the success of her breakout hit Water.
Other major winners at the awards included BTS for Artist of the Year, Sabrina Carpenter for Album of the Year with Man’s Best Friend, and Golden by HUNTR/X featuring EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, which won Song of the Year.
