1. Nigerian students trapped in the Republic of Sudan have said their hope of early evacuation from the theatre of a fierce military confrontation has been dashed by the Federal Government. The conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Force, has claimed over 400 lives, with about 3,500 injured.

2. The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on Saturday, announced the temporary closure of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, due to the collapse of a floodlight mast. Dare disclosed this in a statement after inspecting the collapsed floodlight mast.

3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the commission is zeroing on those hiding under real estate to perpetrate money laundering and other financial crimes. EFCC lawyer, Chris Mishela, told journalists yesterday that many estates springing up in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the country were believed to be the proceeds of fraud.

4. Two years after the abduction of dozens of schoolgirls from Federal Government College Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State, four of the remaining 11 girls in captivity have regained their freedom. The four girls, Bilha Musa, Faiza Ahmed, Rahma Abdullahi and Hafsa Murtala were released by notorious bandit leader, Dogo Gide on Friday evening.

5. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will on Sunday depart Nigeria for the United States of America where he is scheduled to deliver a Special Lecture at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia. UPenn, which is one of the eight private universities known as the Ivy League in the United States, was initially established in 1740 as a charity school.

6. An unconfirmed number of persons were on Saturday evening trapped when a block of flat collapsed in the Sango Police Barracks, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. A source with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.

7. Abia State governor-elect, Alex Otti has debunked the rumours making the rounds that he invited former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to the state for his (Otti’s) inauguration. Otti has been under attack by the members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who also whipped up sentiment about the role the former Head of State played in the death of late General Aguiyi Ironsi, a son of Abia.

8. An All Progressives Congress (APC) support group, the APC Patriotic People’s Forum wants the ruling party to concede the position of the next Speaker of the House of Representatives to the North-Central in the interest of equity and justice. Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Acting Director-General of the group, Prof. Husseini Garbo-Dokko pleaded for concession for North-Central.

9. One of the 85 kidnapped victims in Wanzamai village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Zainab Abdullahi, has escaped from the camp of the terrorists and returned home, while the remaining 84 are still in captivity.

10. The Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council, Mr Dele Alake, yesterday, denied reports that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is under pressure to choose his cabinet, with just six weeks to his inauguration.
