1. The number of Nigerian students who have indicated a willingness to return to the country from war-torn Sudan has risen to 1,700 but the Federal Government said the tense situation in Sudan was making it difficult for stranded Nigerian citizens to be evacuated from the country.

2. The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of five policemen and a couple at Okpala Junction in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state. Some gunmen had on Friday opened fire on the cops, who went to eat at a local restaurant, killed all of them and carted away their rifles.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to people he might have hurt in the course of his duties to pardon him. He made the appeal during the ninth and final Sallah homage paid him by residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led by the minister, Mohammed Bello, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

4. Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on Friday, enjoined the people of Kebbi State to support the administration of the Governor-elect, Nasiru Idris, saying that based on his pedigree and experience he would do better than the current government, that he, Bagudu, led.

5. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Friday, revealed that it is unaware of the whereabouts of its suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Adamawa State, Yunusa Hudu Ari. INEC’s spokesman, Festus Okoye, said yesterday that Ari had not picked up his call, nor did he report to the headquarters as summoned, since his infamous action.

6. The quiet communities of Tattara Mada, Migini, and Angwan Barau in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have been thrown into chaos and mourning after a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen left 12 people dead and several houses and properties destroyed.

7. No fewer than five people have been abducted on their way from a farm at Ingle Otanufe community in Okpokwu Local Government area of Benue State. The victims, it was gathered, were picked from different locations on their way from their farms.

8. The National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Professor Dickson Akoh has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to a Bill for an Act that would make the organization a statutory body. The Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC) passed by the two Chambers of the National Assembly is currently before the President for assent having been transmitted to him last week.

9. No fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead out of 177 suspected cases of cerebrospinal meningitis reported in Degubi community, Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State. Meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the fluid and membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is a devastating disease and remains a major public health challenge.

10. The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended a middle-aged man, identified simply as Kenneth, for allegedly hacking his girlfriend to death in the state capital. It was gathered that the man allegedly hacked his girlfriend, Ebenezer Agada, 27, using a machete to cut her into pieces for allegedly plotting to dump him for another man.
