1. President Bola Tinubu, on Friday in Paris, France, described Nigeria’s financial system under the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, as “rotten.” He cited the difficulty in the flow of forex in and out of the country, saying it enriched a few people while impoverishing the vast majority of Nigerians. He spoke at his first Diaspora engagement with Nigerians living in France.

2. Following a downpour in the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, no fewer than 116 buildings have been submerged by flood in the affected areas. Residents of Trademore Estate along the Lugbe-Airport axis lamented their losses as the flood left a trail of destruction in its wake.

3. The Edo State Taskforce against Human Trafficking has apprehended a 48-year-old man, Anthony Igbinogun, and his girlfriend, Joy Umukoro, 28, for allegedly selling their two-month-old baby to fund their drug addiction. The suspects were arrested with their friend, 26-year-old Precious James, who linked them up to the baby’s buyer in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

4. Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Friday, assured that the November 11 governorship election will be free and fair. The governor gave the assurance while formally receiving thousands of members of the Peoples Democratic Party from Ankpa Local Government Area of the state.

5. A coalition of over 80 human rights organisations under the aegis of Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room said on Friday that President Bola Tinubu should set up an independent national electoral reform panel to bring credibility to elections in Nigeria. The convener of NCSSR, Mallam Yunusa Yau, made the recommendation during a press conference held in Abuja on Friday.

6. The Debt Management Office (DMO) has disclosed that Nigeria’s total public debt has risen to $108.3bn (N49.8trn). In a statement on Friday night, DMO stated that the figure which includes money owed by the federal and state governments does not include the federal government’s N22.7tr Ways and Means Advances of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

7. A witness of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu identified himself as female while seeking admission in the Chicago State University, USA. Mike Enahoro-Ebah, who was subpoenaed by the PDP to the Presidential Election Petitions Court, said Tinubu used the name ‘Bola Adekunle Tinubu’ and identified himself as female while seeking admission.

8. Elder Sunday Oibe, the Executive Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria, 19 Northern States and FCT, has given reasons for the resurgence of killings in Kaduna, Benue and Plateau states in the past few weeks. Elder Oibe, in an interview in Kaduna on Friday, noted that most of the perpetrators of the killings were terrorists imported to Nigeria by some politicians, even as he charged President Tinubu to go after such evil politicians.

9. Bandits in a fresh attack have killed three farmers at the Sabon Layi community in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, according to sources in the area. Chairman of the Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), Usman Kasai, confirmed the attack yesterday.

10. Men of the Delta State Police Command have killed three suspected robbers. The state police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed this to City Round in Asaba, stated that the command also recovered a pump-action gun and six live cartridges in an abandoned bag.
