1. The Senate President, Godwill Akpabio, on Tuesday, announced the Plateau North lawmaker, Mwadkwon Davou as Minority Leader of the House. Akpabio read the names when the lawmakers reconvened after a closed-door session.

2. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Adesola Olusade, on Tuesday, said an investigation had commenced to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the four-storey building collapse on plot 965, Dape, Life Camp, in the Gwarinpa District of the FCT. Olusade, who confirmed the development during an on-the-spot assessment, said anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.

3. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on Tuesday, expressed anger over the new leadership of the National Assembly announced by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. Adamu said the party was not officially informed about the sharing of the offices, describing the report of the emergence of principal officers as a rumour.

4. Armed robbers struck at the palace of the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, on Tuesday evening, shooting two guards. It was gathered that one of the staff of the palace who was sent to the bank to get some cash was trailed by the gunmen.

5. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria needs all the help that it can get at the moment. The President said this on Tuesday while receiving visiting Bank of America officials in his office at the State House, Abuja. He expressed confidence that his administration was on the pathway to success in spite of the challenges facing the country.

6. The Labour Party (LP) has lambasted the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for claiming that insecurity in the nation has reduced. The LP in a statement by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, described the NSA’s comments as hasty assertions. The party stated that security has even worsened in the past few weeks.

7. Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, who was accused by the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of forging her result to emerge the highest scorer, is not seeking legal redress, her father Romanus Ejikeme said on Tuesday. Ejikeme refuted media reports that his daughter had dragged JAMB to court, demanding N20 billion for alleged misrepresentation of facts.

8. A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, has adjourned till today, to commence the trial of one Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos, Frederick Nwajagu, for alleged terrorism. Trial judge, Justice Yetunde Adesanya, adjourned the matter, following the absence of Nwajagu’s counsel.

9. No fewer than 26 persons have been arrested by a Joint Tactical team of the Cross River State Police Command and are currently being questioned over their alleged involvement in the murder of Mrs. Martina Itagbor who was accused of witchcraft.

10. The Kano State Fire Service, on Tuesday, confirmed that no fewer than nine persons lost their lives in different fire incidents that occurred in the state in June 2023. The spokesperson for the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the development in a statement.
