Tiwa Savage has broken silence on her leaked sex rape and revealed it was Ccrculated as a bet.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has opened up about the trauma of her 2021 leaked sex tape, describing it as one of the most painful experiences of her life.
Speaking in an interview on The Breakfast Club released Tuesday, the award-winning singer revealed that the intimate video was not leaked by accident, as initially claimed, but was shared among her ex-boyfriend’s friends as part of a bet.
“He said he was trying to save it and mistakenly pressed send. But later, I found out it was a bet with his friends,” Savage disclosed.

The singer admitted that while she initially used humor and music to mask her pain, the scandal left deep emotional scars. She said many wrongly accused her of orchestrating the leak for publicity, a claim she firmly dismissed.
“People thought I did it for PR, saying I wasn’t relevant anymore. But if I wanted to, trust me, I would have had better lighting,” she quipped, before adding that the incident was too traumatic to continuously address.
The hardest part, Savage noted, was the backlash that dragged her young son into the controversy. “They said I was unfit because of my son. That hurt me more than the actual tape,” she said.
Despite the ordeal, she credited her mother’s unwavering support and therapy for helping her heal. “My mom told me, ‘Don’t listen to them, I’m just happy you’re enjoying yourself.’ Hearing that really helped,” Savage recalled.
The Somebody’s Son crooner also revealed that the experience reshaped her personal life, as she has remained celibate for about three years, choosing to prioritize deeper connections over casual intimacy.
“I don’t know if I don’t come attached. I’ve gone maybe three years without. I have to be with someone for me to even think about it. I don’t even have toys—maybe that’s what people should get me for Christmas,” she joked.
Savage admitted that some songs tied to that painful chapter are still difficult to perform, but emphasized that she is gradually reclaiming her confidence and peace.
