NewsOnline Nigeria reports that fresh tension has reportedly gripped the camp of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following a private meeting he held with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
The closed-door session, which took place at the residence of Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, was described by insiders as more of a “family reunion” than a political negotiation.
According to sources familiar with the meeting, the gathering was informal and focused on appreciation and reconciliation efforts led by state elders who intervened during Rivers’ recent political turmoil.
However, photos from the event that surfaced on Sunday showed Governor Fubara attending without his core loyalists, while several known allies of the FCT Minister were present, sparking unease among members of the governor’s inner circle, who viewed their exclusion with suspicion.
It was gathered that the talks briefly touched on the recent dissolution of state agencies, potential political appointments, and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the state. Elders reportedly advised both sides to tread carefully to prevent a relapse into political crisis.
While speculation mounts about a possible political realignment, neither Governor Fubara nor Minister Wike has issued an official statement regarding the meeting’s outcome.
