Senate President Akpabio has endorsed PDP Governor for a second term.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has thrown his support behind Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
This move came during a town hall meeting at Ikot Ekpene Sports Stadium, where Akpabio’s wife represented him.

The support from Akpabio, a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), was seen as unusual because Eno is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This came just two days after Governor Eno expressed his backing for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
During the event, Akpabio’s wife spoke on his behalf, thanking the governor for helping residents of the area with business grants.
She urged people to unite and put aside political, religious, and ethnic differences for the progress of the state.
The meeting saw the participation of Patrick Umoh, who represents the Ikot Ekpene-Obot Akara-Essien Udim Federal Constituency.
He praised Governor Eno’s leadership and called for his return as governor in 2027. The motion was supported by the crowd.
Governor Eno, while speaking at the gathering, announced N260 million in grants for farmers, traders, and small business owners.
Among the beneficiaries were 210 farmers who got a total of N105 million, 255 traders who received N125 million, six entrepreneurs who each got N5 million, and others who received business tools and vehicles.
He advised the recipients to use the money wisely and warned that those who had already benefited would not be considered again.
Eno also said that a document listing the needs of the community had been collected and would be used in preparing the 2026 budget, depending on available resources.
The governor said the document would guide next year’s budget, which he described as a way of involving citizens in the process.
He promised to study the list and try to include as many items as possible.
