President Trump has finalised US-UK Trade Deal with Starmer.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have finalised a trade agreement that lowers tariffs on key UK exports, including automobiles and aerospace components, while partially addressing ongoing disputes over steel and aluminium.

The deal, signed on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, grants British car manufacturers an annual quota of 100,000 vehicles eligible for export to the U.S. at a reduced 10% tariff—down from the standard 25% imposed on other countries.

The agreement also removes tariffs on UK aerospace products, including aircraft parts and complete planes.

“We signed it and it’s done,” President Trump said, briefly confusing the agreement with a deal involving the European Union before clarifying that it applied to Britain. He described the US-UK relationship as “fantastic.”

Prime Minister Starmer hailed the deal as “a very good day for both of our countries, a real sign of strength.”

Though considered a significant breakthrough, certain sectors remain unresolved. A U.S. executive order indicated that quotas on steel and aluminium imports from Britain would be implemented exempt from 25% tariffs, but only on the condition that the UK demonstrates “security” in its supply chains and production processes.

The quota limits will be determined by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Britain, which previously avoided tariffs of up to 50% imposed on other nations, had faced a 9th July deadline to strike a deal or risk heightened duties.

The agreement also grants reciprocal access to 13,000 metric tonnes of beef, with the UK reaffirming that all U.S. meat imports must meet stringent British food safety standards.

UK Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds described the agreement as a major victory for Britain’s aerospace and automotive sectors, noting that the UK is the only nation thus far to secure such a deal with the Trump administration.

“Bringing trade deals into force can take several months, yet we are delivering on the first set of agreements in a matter of weeks. And we won’t stop there,” Reynolds said in a statement.

Negotiations are ongoing to secure preferential treatment for the UK pharmaceutical sector, and efforts continue to shield British industries from future tariffs under current U.S. Section 232 investigations.

When asked whether the agreement protects the UK from future tariff threats, President Trump quipped, “The UK is very well protected. You know why? Because I like them. That’s their ultimate protection.”

The trade deal is set to take effect seven days after publication in the U.S. Federal Register.
