Police have dismissed two officers soliciting money from tourist in a viral video.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Oyo State Police Command dismissed special constables Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Lukman on Thursday over allegations of extortion.

Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, Commissioner of Police Adebola Hamzat said the constables were captured in a viral video soliciting money from Ms Noraly Schoenmaker, a tourist from the Netherlands.

The incident happened on October 23, 2023, along Moniya-Iseyin Road.

Hamzat said that the dismissed constables deliberately defied numerous orders and directives against professional misconduct, extortion, lack of civility, and corruption.

“We have always been warning against extortion. We have been alerting everyone that this administration has zero tolerance for corruption. That is the stand of the Inspector General of Police and my stand as the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police stated emphatically that “we don’t condone corruption and don’t want the Command to be given a bad name.”
