Peter Obi has slammed President Tinubu and APC for ‘prioritizing politics over governance’.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing them of placing political scheming above the welfare and security of Nigerians.

In a statement shared on his verified X account on Wednesday, Obi alleged that rather than confronting Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, the APC-led government is more preoccupied with sponsoring internal crises within opposition parties.

Titled “Now Disgraced Nation,” Obi’s post referenced a recent remark by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who described Nigeria as “now disgraced.” Obi questioned whether Nigerians could truly deny the label, given the country’s deteriorating security situation.

“A few weeks ago, when President Trump described our country as ‘now disgraced,’ many were outraged,” Obi wrote. “Yet, how can we dispute it when, within a single week, 25 people were kidnapped, and one of our generals, alongside other officers, was killed? Today, we witness another troubling terror attack in Kwara State.”

He lamented that instead of rallying the nation during such difficult times, the government has become distracted by political interference.

“Look closely at what is happening in the PDP, Labour Party, SDP, and other political formations—crises deliberately orchestrated by a government that should be embracing everyone to unite in this troubling period,” he said.

Obi recalled the leadership style of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who once directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure all political parties—not just the ruling party—remained stable for the good of Nigeria’s democracy.

According to Obi, the current administration appears intent on weakening the opposition rather than fostering an inclusive democratic environment.

“In true democratic nations, opposition is respected, elections reflect the will of the people, and governance involves carrying everyone along for peace and prosperity,” he added, concluding with, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
