Peter Obi has declared 2027 Presidential Ambition and said that he is also open to one-term deal in coalition arrangement.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has officially declared his intention to contest Nigeria’s highest office again in 2027.

This Nigeria news platform understands that Obi made the announcement during a live interactive session with supporters on X (formerly Twitter) Space on Sunday night, stressing that his renewed bid is driven by a strong commitment to national stability and reform.

Obi, who placed third in the 2023 presidential race, said he is prepared to serve only one term in office if that becomes a condition for forming a coalition to rescue Nigeria. “If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply and be ready to leave by May 29, 2031,” he said.

No Alliance With Atiku

The LP flagbearer dismissed rumours of an alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or discussions over a joint presidential ticket. “I have not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku,” he clarified.

However, Obi confirmed that he is in talks with various political groups and stakeholders over forming a broader coalition—but insisted that any alliance must be issue-driven. “If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue and Zamfara, reviving our economy, making industries productive, or putting food on the table for Nigerians, count me out,” he said.

Governance Blueprint: Security, Education, and Poverty Eradication

Speaking on his vision for governance, Obi promised swift and impactful reforms within his first 100 days if elected president. “We will prioritise security, education, and poverty eradication. We must cut the cost of governance and tackle corruption from day one,” he declared, adding that his family will play no role in governance to avoid conflicts of interest.

He also pledged to uphold democratic principles by ensuring that elected officials remain loyal to their political parties and by strengthening the role of opposition in Nigeria’s democracy. “There will be no party cross-carpeting under my administration. We must entrench political discipline.”

Fixing Nigeria from Within

Taking a swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s recent extended stay in St. Lucia, Obi criticised the President for neglecting domestic engagement. “In two years, Tinubu has not spent a night in any Nigerian state apart from Lagos, yet he plans to spend eight nights in St. Lucia, a place smaller than Ajegunle,” he remarked.

He also reaffirmed his stance on inclusive governance, noting that rotation of power remains essential to Nigeria’s stability. “I believe in zoning. I practised it in Anambra. Government must reflect the diversity of our people.”

Labour Party and Legal Recognition

On internal wranglings within the Labour Party, Obi revealed that efforts are underway to gain official recognition for the Nenadi Usman-led faction by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), citing a Supreme Court ruling in their favour.

2027 Strategy: Peaceful but Vigilant

Obi assured supporters that his campaign would remain peaceful but more strategic in 2027. “We will insist that the right thing is done before any result is announced in Abuja. This time, our votes will count, and we’ll ensure they do.”

He called on Nigerians to rally behind a leadership that will prioritize good governance, justice, and accountability. “My past speaks for me. I was always present in Anambra where issues arose. To lead is to serve—and sometimes to risk your life for the people.”

Obi’s declaration marks an early and resolute entry into what promises to be a high-stakes 2027 presidential race, as opposition forces consider broader realignments to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
