Peter Obi has condemned the hike in International Passport Fees by Tinubu Government.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed strong disapproval over the Federal Government’s decision to increase international passport fees, describing it as another undue burden on struggling Nigerians.

In a statement posted on his official X handle on Thursday, Obi criticized what he termed the administration’s “legendary obsession” with policies that make life harder for citizens rather than easing their challenges.

The Federal Government had earlier announced the new tariff, pegging the 32-page passport booklet at ₦100,000 and the 64-page booklet at ₦200,000.

Obi noted that in a country where the new minimum wage stands at ₦70,000, the cost of obtaining a passport now surpasses a worker’s monthly salary.

“It is alarming that the price of the international passport is higher than what workers earn in a month,” the former Anambra State governor wrote.

He maintained that instead of creating policies that cushion the economic hardship, the government continues to transfer its inefficiencies and revenue drive onto ordinary Nigerians.
