The G5 governors led by Nyesom Wike on Monday departed Nigeria for London to agree on a consensus candidate to endorse among the presidential candidates, particularly between Bola Tinubu of All Progressives Congress and Peter Obi of Labour Party.
The journey to London, anonymous sources have said, has been less fruitful, as there is division among the five governors on who to endorse.
Sources said, Wike and Ortom allegedly preferred Peter Obi, while Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi are insisting that the governorship candidates of the Labour Party in their states of Enugu and Abia have to resign for their support to go to Peter Obi. Seyi Makinde is reportedly indifferent.
Other sources also said, at a deadlock on the above division, Ortom and Ikpeazu are suggesting that the G5 governors remain neutral on presidential choice.
Recall that Governor Wike said he would announce his presidential candidate in January, but has consistently added that he cannot work for the APC candidate, Tinubu. Also, Ortom on Christmas Day, told Nigerians that LP candidate, Peter Obi is the best candidate that can solve the country’s problems. Ortom added that being a PDP member is the only hindrance for him to campaign for the LP candidate.
