Obi’s influence currently dominates his native South-East and extends to other zones like the South-South and parts of Northern Nigeria, particularly among Christian populations.

PDP Chieftain has hinted on Peter Obi winning 2027 Presidential Election.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has said that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stands a strong chance of winning the 2027 presidential election—but only if he returns to the PDP.

Speaking on the Mic On Show podcast, Showunmi emphasized that while Obi enjoys widespread support, his current platform lacks the nationwide political structure necessary to secure the presidency.

According to him, the former Anambra State governor has the charisma, numbers, and followership needed to lead the country, but he must be under a more established opposition party to fully capitalize on his popularity.

“If his numbers and the animated energy that is following him were to follow him into the PDP and he is the presidential candidate, I can guarantee you Peter would take the Southeast, Peter would take the South-South, Peter would take the Christian North, and Peter would take the North Central,” Showunmi said.

He noted that Obi’s influence currently dominates his native South-East and extends to other zones like the South-South and parts of Northern Nigeria, particularly among Christian populations.

Peter Obi left the PDP in the build-up to the 2023 general elections and joined the Labour Party, where he contested against Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Despite winning 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Obi came third in the final tally as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with Tinubu declared the winner.
