PadHer has secured $140,000 Grant to scale Menstrual Health Education in Ghana.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that PadHer, a leading social enterprise driving menstrual and sexual health education across Africa, has received a $140,000 grant from the Chocolonely Foundation to expand its work in Ghana’s Volta Region. Through a partnership with Girls Club Ghana, the initiative will reach thousands of schoolgirls with reusable pads and stigma-free menstrual health education.

Speaking on the impact, Chika Nwaogu, Founder and Executive Director of PadHer, said:
“The work is personal and profound. Every girl we reach is a girl who doesn’t have to feel shame, skip school, or doubt her worth because of her period. Our mission is to ensure no girl is left behind.”

For Ama, a 13-year-old from the Volta Region, the program has been life-changing. She once dreaded her monthly cycle due to the lack of menstrual products and proper information, often skipping school and feeling ashamed. “I thought something was wrong with me. Now I know my period is normal. I don’t hide anymore and I go to school without fear,” she shared.

PadHer uses creative tools such as comic books, animations, and digital games to demystify menstrual health and empower girls like Ama to embrace their bodies with confidence.

Describing the grant as a major milestone, Thelma Teetee Ahamba, PadHer’s Director of Operations and Partnerships, noted: “With our comic-based curriculum and trusted local partners, we will reach schoolgirls across the country with dignity-preserving menstrual health management.” She also credited the leadership of Chika Nwaogu for steering the initiative’s continued success.

Beyond funding, PadHer’s impact has gained global recognition. The organization was recently inducted into the EduEvidence Global EdTech Evidence List, validating it as a research-backed educational technology solution. It has also reached over 100,000 girls across Africa and, for the third time, was recognized among the world’s most impactful educational innovations by the non-profit HundrED.

As PadHer scales its work in Ghana and beyond, menstrual health is being reframed not as a taboo, but as a subject of pride, creativity, and empowerment, paving the way for a generation of confident African girls.
