NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Popular Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, widely known as Odumodublvck, has alleged that some artistes in the Nigerian music industry resort to voodoo in their quest to produce hit songs.
The rapper made the claim during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, where he spoke about the challenges of achieving commercial success in the music industry.
According to Odumodublvck, producing a hit song is no easy feat, noting that some artistes go through their entire careers without recording a single major hit.
He further suggested that the struggle for musical success pushes some musicians to explore spiritual practices in the hope of achieving mainstream recognition.
“Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artistes crashing out when they struggle to get a hit,” he said.
Odumodublvck also praised Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, Wizkid and Afrobeats star Davido for their consistency in releasing commercially successful songs over the years.
“You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers,” he added.
His comments have brought renewed attention to the pressure artistes face in the Nigerian music industry to consistently deliver hit records and maintain commercial relevance.
