Nollywood Filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been arrested over alleged Coup Plot against Tinubu Government.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Stanley Amandi, has been arrested alongside several military officers and civilians over an alleged plot to violently overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Amandi, a director and former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has been in custody since September 2025, according to a report by Premium Times. This marks the first public disclosure of the actor’s alleged involvement in the foiled coup plot.
Security sources said the alleged plotters engaged Amandi as a propagandist in a scheme that reportedly involved plans to assassinate top government officials. The targets, according to officials briefed on the investigation, allegedly included President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other senior government figures.

Recall that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Monday confirmed the conclusion of investigations into the alleged attempt to illegally remove the Tinubu administration. The military disclosed that 16 indicted officers would be arraigned before military judicial panels.
In a statement, the DHQ said the outcome of the investigation had been forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.” It described the probe as comprehensive, noting that it examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel in accordance with established procedures.
The military added that several officers were found to have allegations linked to plotting against the government, describing such conduct as “inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
Recall that in October 2025, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) confirmed that 16 officers were under investigation, although it initially described the case as relating to “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.” Sources later disclosed that the probe widened, leading to the arrest of additional military personnel and civilians.
According to the sources, implicated military officers are expected to face court martial proceedings, while civilians, including Amandi, will be prosecuted in civil courts.
Stanley Amandi is a prominent figure in Nollywood, with experience as an actor, production manager and director. His works include The Album, Tiger King (2008), Cornerstone (2019), and Once Upon a Dream (2024).
His last activity on Instagram was recorded on September 19, 2025, shortly before his arrest, and he has not been seen publicly since then.
