Nigeria’s Political and Social Elites have stormed Abuja for Amaechi son’s wedding.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that it was a gathering of Nigeria’s political heavyweights, business leaders, and close family associates on Saturday as former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, hosted the wedding solemnization of his eldest son, Dr. Chikampa Amaechi, and his bride, Anita Nwabueze.
The ceremony, held at St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, drew a high-profile guest list, including former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan; Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of the former Vice President; National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, and his wife, Helen; and former PDP Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus.

Other dignitaries present were Vanguard Newspapers Chairman, Sam Amuka Pemu; former Rivers Governor, Celestine Omehia; former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; Senator Olurunimbe Mamora; former Head of Service, Chief (Mrs.) Amma Pepple; ex-NIMASA DG and Vanguard columnist, Dr. Dakuku Peterside; and Senator Lee Maeba, among others.
The solemn mass featured scriptural readings from Genesis 2:18-24 and 1 Corinthians 12:1-13, both emphasizing the sanctity of love, companionship, and unity in marriage.
Delivering his homily, Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, charged the couple to invite God into their home daily and strive to ensure their marriage surpasses the longevity of their parents’ unions—Amaechi’s marriage of 32 years and the bride’s parents’ 34-year union. In a lighthearted moment, the Archbishop drew laughter from the congregation when he recalled Dame Jonathan’s famous phrase, “There is God o!”
Father Steve, the officiating priest and longtime spiritual guide to the Amaechi family, admonished the couple to uphold sacrificial love and resist the rising tide of broken marriages. Citing research, he warned that three in ten marriages end in divorce and urged the couple to ensure theirs would never become part of that statistic.
Following the church ceremony, guests were treated to a lavish reception at the Angeles Event Centre, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kado, Abuja, where music, fine dining, and cultural displays capped the day’s festivities.
The wedding of Dr. Chikampa and Anita was not just a family celebration but a showcase of unity, influence, and the enduring ties among Nigeria’s political and social elite.
