Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari says he is eager to hand over to his successor because “it’s been tough”. The President said this while receiving some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), legislators and political leaders at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, on Monday.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has called on members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to reconsider their position on the prolonged strike and resume work for negotiations to continue. The President made the call while receiving some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina yesterday.

3. Leaders and ministers of churches have said the country’s future is bleak with the lingering ASUU strike in the country. They, therefore, appealed to unions in the nation’s universities to quickly resolve the issue in the interest of the students.

4. Two of the inmates who fled Kuje prison during last week’s invasion have been nabbed in Abuja and Suleja, Niger State. On Monday, eagle eyed operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) nabbed one of fleeing inmates, Suleiman Idi, at Area 1 motor park in the Federal Capital Territory.

5. Lead negotiator between the government and terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March, Mallam Tukur Mamu, has hailed Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for the “crucial role” he played that led to the freedom of some captives. Some of the passengers abducted from a Kaduna-bound train, including the son of Prof Ango Abdullahi and a Pakistani, were released on Saturday.

6. Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has admitted that there is hardship in Nigeria, describing it as a global trend. He spoke during an interview with Channels TV yesterday.

7. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has won a court decision temporarily blocking Exxon Mobil Corporation from selling assets in Nigeria to Seplat Energy Plc. A judge in Abuja granted NNPC an “order of interim injunction” on July 6, 2022, barring Exxon “from completing any divestment” in a unit that ultimately operates four licenses in Nigeria.

8. The lingering fuel scarcity worsened in some parts of the country with motorists buying petrol between N300 and N350-litre in Abuja on Monday. Residents are lamenting the spike in the price of PMS, as well as the difficulties experienced in accessing the product.

9. The Ekiti State Police Command, on Monday, said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad arrested three suspected kidnappers terrorising parts of the state. The State Commissioner of Police, Moronkeji Adesina, said the RRS operatives, in collaboration with vigilantes, nabbed the suspected kidnappers inside a forest in Ijan Ekiti in the Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state.

10. Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese has said the decision by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to present Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election was a teamwork based on calculation of what would work for the party. In a statement yesterday, he urged aggrieved persons to support other preferred candidates.
