1. Indications emerged on Saturday that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, might cut short his foreign trip and return to the country on Monday to take charge of things with regards to the National Assembly leadership tussle.

2. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday, called on President Muhammad Buhari to go beyond offering condolences by ordering security agencies to fish out the criminals behind the killings in the state. This is as 87 people were killed in separate attacks within 48 hours in the state.

3. Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has rejected Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka’s challenge to an open debate. Soyinka had challenged Datti to an open debate following attacks on him by ‘Obidients’ who were not happy with his reaction to Datti’s comments on the February 25 presidential election.

4. Gunmen in the early hours of Saturday attacked Chitumu, a community near Zuba town, in Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Muhammad Liman, secretary to the community’s village head, said the attackers arrived some minutes after 12 am, and went straight to the house of a cattle dealer, one Isiaka Alhassan Dogara.

5. Several persons were feared dead when a local boat capsized at Iwokiri, along the Okoroma community, Nembe waterways in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. According to investigations, the boat was conveying passengers and goods to Okpoama, also in Brass Local Government Area when the incident happened.

6. The 36 states chairmen of the Labour Party (LP), including the one for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have asked the Apapa-led faction to drop its lawsuit against some of the party members and follow the proper procedures for dispute resolution outside the court in an effort to stop the crisis that is currently rocking the LP.

7. A Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has described the clamour for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as unconstitutional. CNG’s Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, in a statement, yesterday, advised Bola Tinubu’s incoming administration against repeating what he called the ‘mistake of President Shehu Shagari.’

8. The Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has revealed that he would approach the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the outcome of the March 18, 2023, election in the state. Abe made the revelation when he spoke in Port Harcourt, the state capital, yesterday.

9. Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the posting/redeployment of 14 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to Departments, Commands, and Formations. This follows recent promotions and retirements in the Nigeria Police.

10. Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 43-year-old man, Hassan Yusuf, for allegedly setting ablaze the apartment of his ex-lover, Busayo Falola. The suspect reportedly burnt down the building on 127, Old Scholar Palace, Igan Road, Ago-Iwoye, in the Ijebu-North Local Government Area of the state to protest the ex-lover’s refusal to reconcile with him.
